KALOLENI WARD IN A BRIEF DETAILS

KALOLENI WARD – MOSHI MUNICIPAL

Kaloleni Ward is situated in the Moshi Municipal, Kilimanjaro region. It is only 4 km south west of Moshi town. It borders with Njoro Ward in the North, Mabogini Ward in the South, Rau Forest in the East while in the West there is Pasua Ward.

STREETS
Kaloleni Ward has got two streets: Kaloleni and Kalimani. The Ward’s demography according to 2002 census, there are 5520 peoples. Among all, there are 2709 women and 2811 are men.
In the ward, there are diverse tribes such as Chaggas, Pares, Sambaa plus other minority tribes.

LAND USE
In Kaloleni, land use is mainly for agriculture and residential purposes. Some segment of the population is farmers cultivating rice, maize and beans plus vegetables. Farmers depend on both irrigation and seasonal rains for all these activities.
Other residents keep cows, goats, sheep, pigs and poultry. Due to lack of areas for pastures, all these are done indoors.
There is also another land which is normally used as a Damping Site for all the garbage produced within the Moshi Municipal.

WATER SOURCES
Kaloleni Ward enjoys water from the taps which is supplied by the Moshi Water and Sewerage (MUWSA). There are also other natural springs such as: Goa, Njoro, Liwali,…………………..
The water from the springs is safe for drinking and other domestic uses.

EDUCATION
In Kaloleni Ward, there are both Secondary and Primary Schools. Kaloleni Primary School is the school under the Government while Al Hudda Primary School is under the Private ownership through Muslim Agency.
There are also two secondary schools: Msasani Secondary School under the Government overseer while Al Hudda Secondary School is under the Muslim Agency as a private School.
Msasani Secondary School is still in rebuilding process as it is a new school with already taking students up to form two. The Government is ensuring the construction process is moving on together with donors from both within the country and outside the country.

HEALTH SERVICES
Currently, Kaloleni Ward does not have a dispensary by the government. However, there is a Private owned dispensary under the Muslim Agency which helps the residents with health services. However, with the little services it can offer, the residents have to attend to the neighborhood dispensaries at Pasua Ward.
Recently, the Government through, Tanzania Social Action Fund (TASAF) has began to construct a dispensary which will cater for all the Kaloleni Ward residence. It is expected the dispensary will be ready in a year’s time.

Apart from the dispensary, at Kaloleni Ward, there is a special institution which provides special health services for the disabled children. This is known as Comprehensive Community Based Rehabilitation – CCBRT Kilimanjaro. Its services are spread beyond the ward where it can reach as far as in the rural districts mainly helping the disabled children.

ROADS
Kaloleni Ward is connected its two streets: Kalimani and Kaloleni by normal low quality dust and sand roads. The roads have to be graded after every rainy season each year. The whole roads network in the Ward is about 16 km.

MARKETS
There is already a plan to construct a market place for the resident to get their social amenities easily instead of walking and traveling to town. There is an open space specifically for the establishment of the markets at Kaloleni Street in an area known as Msasani.
Currently, the residents get their needs from the market in the neighborhood Ward market at Pasua.

SECURITY
There is a Police Sub – Station at Kaloleni Ward which offers safety services among the residents. Currently, there is one policeman and militia personnel helping people to ensure they live safely.

COMMUNITY BASED ORGANISATIONS (CBO’S)

At Kaloleni currently, there are only notable CBOs working mainly in protection of sources of water and environment in general. These are:

1. MVULENI GROUP
2. KALOLENI YOUTH GROUP

Kaloleni Ward is in dire need for more these types of organizations. There are so many opportunities where they can offer assistance in ensuring the community lives according to the acceptable qualities. These include areas such as Farmers support initiatives, Widow and Widower’s supports, Poverty eradication initiatives, Elders supports, Orphaned Child care, Education development supports – both constructions of classrooms, laboratories, computer room, library, teacher’s quarters and teacher’s launch for Msasani Secondary School.

If the above areas will get any kind of support as I have indicated, definitely something valuable will image and be reflected towards the masses of Kaloleni Ward.
